many people consider cherries as one of the prettiest fruits in the world. And who would not think that when these bright red fruits really look appealing not just to the eyes but also to the palate? They can look very tempting with their vibrant red color. Anyone can practically gaze at a bunch of cherries and water forms immediately, making you want to a handful of these luscious reds. Well, do not stop yourself since these really delicious fruits are not only juicy and tasty but they are also known to be very healthy. In other words, they look good; they taste good and they do good for the body as well.

Cherries come in two types - the tart variety and the sweet variety. These small juicy fruits can be eaten fresh, dried, canned or be made into juice. They can also be good additions to pies. When made into pies or pastries, cherries can be baked hot in the oven or they can be included as ingredients to refrigerator desserts. One type of cherry that is very popular is the Bing cherry. It becomes blackish or purplish skin when fully mature and the flesh inside is dark red and is very sweet.

These small luscious fruits are very pleasant to the taste buds but aside from being great delicacies, they also give the body a lot of benefits health wise. Research shows that the many cherry varieties are known to have the disease fighting anti-oxidants. These anti-oxidants help our bodies fight off the damaging and harmful free radicals that we get from the food we eat and from the environment we live in. So every time you put a cherry into your mouth, think that you are doing your taste buds and your body great favors. Other than its anti-oxidant content, the cherry fruit also contains a lot of vitamins and minerals. One example is its high beta carotene content; it even has more beta carotene than blueberries.

There are also many studies that show cherries are good in relieving the pain associated with gout and arthritis. The red fruits can also help reduce a good number of diseases including cancer and diabetes. Also, its abundance of anthocyanin's found in the skin and flesh help reduce oxidative stress which can be responsible for what we all autoimmune diseases.

Cherries are also heralded as the bringer of other health benefits like lowering cholesterol levels in the body, fighting memory loss, helping in fighting diabetes and helping establish better sleep patterns for those who eat them regularly.

All these just prove that cherries are indeed wonder fruits. They are wonderful to look at, to taste and even to include in daily diets. They never run out of great health benefits and we can all use those. Keep in mind that instead of taking health supplements, you might just as well pop in some cherries so you can help your body fight diseases or to counter the weakening of cells and tissues brought about by aging and free radical effect.
