Treadmills Versus Exercise Bikes

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In many exercise bikes, exercise bikes and you will see the treadmills have their fair share of fans. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, so its almost - emphasis on almost - equally popular. But one of them is much more useful than the other?

Adhere to Exercise Program

A major problem is training at home, put the exercise program. After all, there are personal trainers provide motivation, guidanceand inspiration, and my fellow gym rats chitcagossip. In short, you can easily fall victim to the clutches of boredom.

Then, compare the levels of fun on a treadmill than a stationary bike. On a treadmill, you can go and run two activities you do in normal activities and can not be so funny. Of course you can vary the speed and incline on the treadmill, but still not as fun as you want it.

On a stationary bike, can also find other activities to avoid boredom. I am still comfortable to read books and magazines, TV shows, music and even watched the virtual landscape to pass, thanks in large part because they bounce up. Now, however, that the operation on a treadmill. With a greater variety of entertainment options, is likely to remain at home exercise program.

Leave calories

Although studies haveshowed that more calories than treadmills, stationary bikes with all things being equal, is burning. In general, work on the treadmill burns 750 calories an hour while stationary bike burns only 550 calories.

So the next conclusion that we should opt for the treadmill instead of the bike, because the numbers say something, right? Well, not exactly the way the numbers are only part of the whole equation.

If you can not work on the treadmill as youwant to work on an exercise bike, then it is logical that the bicycle will be greater potential to burn calories. So the coach wins this round again.

Aspects of safety in use

This is probably the main comparison, just because you exercise for a toned body, not one that is wounded by the same year. Once again, the coach wins on the treadmill of security in the area of use for two reasons.

First, theexercise bike is a very small impact exercise compared to high-impact workout on the treadmill. This is because the feet are in constant contact with the hard ground of the treadmill, while the exercise bike, bring the feet stay on the pedals. Secondly, there are more at risk from the treadmill than on a stationary bike. To know the balance upright on a treadmill at any time.

Why So Many Choose Bowflex

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are unquestionably many benefits to owning a home gym versus getting a public fitness center membership. You can exercise any time you feel like it, there will be no lines unless you invited a buddy to work out with you, and you can work out at your own pace and enjoy it. These are several good reasons to purchase a Bowflex.

A home gym also gives you privacy. Quickly calculate the number of months it will take for your Bowflex home gym to pay for itself by considering the expense of a public fitness center membership you will no longer have to have. Even if you finance your Bowflex gym in favor of monthly installments, there will later come a day when your balance is zero and you get to keep your gym.

Lots of people speculate about the effectiveness of the Bowflex home gym after they first see it. There aren't any weight plates and it seems pretty small and light in weight to have a substantial training session with. Bendable plastic rods, huh, power rods they call them? They do not seem to be all that strong.

Bowflex needed to produce a number of television ads demonstrating how weight lifters are severely challenged by the amount of resistance offered by those spindly-looking power rods. If you have watched these televised demos or online videos you'll remember that some of the athletes themselves ended up being surprised at just how tough it was to perform bench presses or curls against the levels of resistance of those dainty looking power rods supplied.

The level of resistance can be changed from a low of 5 pounds to a high of 410 pounds on the PR3000, 210 pounds on the PR1000. If that seems light for your requirements, then you're likely either a veteran body builder or maybe a professional athlete and the Bowflex may not be the best option in your case. Most of us should find this plenty demanding. In case you are unsure simply take a quick trip to a local gym. Put 210 pounds of weight on a barbell. Now very slowly and carefully try and move it. If it's too easy switch to 410 pounds. I am unable to recommend that you attempt to lift that however... Even 210 pounds should sound like plenty unless you are currently in great shape from some kind of resistance training habit.

Even accomplished weight lifters are only able to lift 410 pounds on a small number of exercises. I am not very big and I could leg press more than 400 pounds though I can't think of anything else I could possibly do with even nearly that much weight. The world record for a solitary bench press without using bench shirts or other special equipment is 715 pounds. Not many gym goers are capable of bench pressing 400 pounds even once, let alone for a set of 8 to 10 reps.

The leg press is the sole exercise I can think of where 410 pounds of resistance might not be sufficient to force you to your limits if you are a dedicated weight lifter or bodybuilder. Even an expert bodybuilder performing sets of 10 leg presses won't likely go over 700 pounds by much, and in the same context a 400 pound squat for 10 repetitions is pretty remarkable "I don't care who you are". If you need a home unit that will permit you to do leg presses with more than 410 pounds of resistance then even the Bowflex PR3000 won't do it for you.

So, in my estimation "can you get to resemble the Bowflex models using the machine for twenty or so minutes a day three times per week?" The bottom line is -- no. 20 minutes per day three times weekly might be a good starting point if you are recovering from couch sitting but it won't get you looking like a sports model any time soon.

In my personal experience it will take a full hour 3 times a week. So that's several hours of resistance training a week, not one. In my opinion, that's what it will require to make "a transformation" in your physical fitness and shape. It normally would require this much time whatever form of resistance training you try, whether dumbbells or the Bowflex or something else.

Now you have more insight into why the Bowflex has grown to become such a widely used home gym.

What You Need to Know Before Choosing a Talking Pedometer

Image : http://www.flickr.com

More than ever before, we humans are being health conscious. With the rise in health diseases and premature deaths, the message of living healthy has never been shoved down our throats as much as it is today.

Besides smoking less and drinking less alcohol, more exercise is one of the key messages being promoted and rightly so!

Exercise makes you feel better, look better and live longer and one of the ways to make exercising less boring and more fun is by using a talking pedometer.

If you don't know what a pedometer is exactly it's a compact device that you can use while exercising (running, walking, etc) that displays a whole heap of useful data on a small LCD screen. Information such as the amount of calories you have burnt, distance traveled and even the number of steps you have taken is displayed, allowing you to keep track of your progress and giving you that extra incentive to beating your top workout score!

There are many types of pedometers they include GPS pedometers, Running Pedometers, Watch Pedometers and of course the type we are discussing now, talking pedometers.

The main feature that makes a pedometer a "talking pedometer" is the feature that allows it to talk out load telling you your results as you exercise along. This means you don't need to constantly stop and check your pedometer!

Some other interesting features of a talking pedometer include:

Backlit display

FM radio

Alarm Clock

Safety Alarm ( a button that alerts nearby people when you need help)

Melody Pacer (the pace of melodies change, going slow and fast depending on your movements)

As you can see what seemed a simple exercise device really has some amazing features but with everything there are different brands at different costs, so some features may not be present depending on the model you choose.

If you really are serious about keeping fit a talking pedometer comes highly recommended. It may be difficult to find an objective view online, so it's recommended you choose an online store like Amazon where you can find reviews before purchasing

Finding the Best Pedometer

Image : http://www.flickr.com

With all of the available pedometers, how do you know which one is best for you? pedometers have swept the country with a new way to electronically calculate how many steps you take in a day. With this new little device, everyone who owns one is more and more motivated to take those few extra steps for a healthier lifestyle.

pedometers are supposed to accurately count the number of steps you have taken according to the movement of your hips. However, finding the best pedometer to do this accurately can be a bit challenging, as not all pedometers are as accurate as they claim to be. The leaves you wondering still, how far, and how many steps did you walk today? Would you be better off counting your steps in your head?

Buying the most expensive pedometer, will ensure that you get the best pedometer, right? Not always. Sometimes, and in this particular case, price does not always matter. The best way to ensure that you get an accurate pedometer, will be to read the reviews that others who have tried and tested any particular pedometer have written. When you read the reviews for pedometers, you might find that not everyone's pedometer has tested the same. While no pedometer can give you exactly the correct number of steps you have taken on any given day, most of them are able to come close.

Finding the best pedometer, might as well mean finding a good one, and sticking with it. Test it yourself a couple of times, and see just how accurate it is. Know that while you are standing in place, and not walking, when you shift your weight from one foot to the other, the pedometer may calculate this is as a step you have taken, from the movement of your hips. Once you have chosen the pedometer you want to use, put it through your own test, find out how accurate it is, and calculate yourself how many steps you have taken, and how many it counted. Play with your pedometer and know what it counts as step, that may not actually be a step at all. Knowing this will help you get them most from your pedometer, and your walking.

While everyone may think they have the best pedometer, buying a good one will give you better results. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either, should do you fine. Be sure that you can return the pedometer for a full refund if you are not happy with the results. This way you can test it out to see how accurate it is, and know that you are not wasting money if it proves to be really inaccurate.

Cheap Pedometers - New Study Shows They Can Help You Live Longer!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

How can using a cheap pedometer save my life?

A study released in January 2010 by the BBC confirms what doctors have been warning us about for decades - that our sedentary lifestyles will not only make us obese, but could also be deadly. It turns out that sitting for more than four hours a day (which most of us do between driving, desk jobs, and TV/computer use) causes our brains to send out the same metabolic shut down signals that are sent out when someone dies.

In short, if you don't move around enough during the day, your organs go into a semi-shutdown state! Our lifestyles with computers, televisions, office work, and driving cause most of us not to move around as much as nature intended.

What if I don't like to exercise?

It doesn't take much! Experts have concluded that strict exercise regimes can actually hinder rather than help because people rarely follow through and stick with them. How many people join a gym with good intentions and then only go once a month? It is better to do only a little low-impact exercise consistently every day rather than in short bursts of activity with long unmotivated gaps between workout dates.

Walking is a great, low-impact activity that pretty much everyone can perform. No equipment, exercise DVDs, or strict diets required. In fact, you can walk enough not to be considered "sedentary" just through normal productive activities like gardening and shopping.

How can a pedometer help?

A study done in 2005 by Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise showed that people that use pedometers are many times more likely to walk the 5000+ steps or more daily which prevent heart and health problems. Keeping a cheap pedometer on your hip or in your pocket reminds you daily of your goals and helps to keep you motivated.

To be not be considered "sedentary" and at risk for metabolic shutdown, you need to walk at least 5000 steps a day or more. This equates to roughly a little over 2 miles a day, but don't worry - it doesn't all have to be done at once!

To be considered "active" and in an increased metabolic state for weight loss, you need to walk 10,000+ steps a day or more. This may sound like a lot, but it adds up quick between daily activities and a regular 30 minute exercise regime.

How do you know when you are doing enough?

Pedometers are small step counting machines or devices that you wear on your belt to track how many steps you take every day. More expensive models will even calculate calories burned and keep track of your workouts in memory.

When do you use a pedometer?

Pedometers are not just for fitness addicts or jogging. Many people wear pedometers on their belt to work everyday, when they go shopping, or just when going about normal activities. Once again, just looking down and knowing it is there will remind you to walk across the office to talk to someone rather than dialling or messaging them.

Which pedometers are best?

There are cheap pedometers ($5 - $10) that are simply digital step counters with one or two buttons on them. They are very easy to use and configure. These are not very accurate but will do fine for just tracking daily activity and keeping you motivated.

People that are more serious about walking for fitness may be interested in more advanced models such as the ones offered by omron that have memories to chart goals and USB connections for uploading data to your computer.

If you are interested in weight loss, be sure to get a digital pedometer that tracks your calories burned during each walk or workout, preferably one with a heart rate monitor, these can be purchased for less than $50.

How to use a pedometer?

Cheap pedometers require you to first set the stride distance taken with each step. The distance will vary between people of different heights, just follow the instructions that come with your pedometer. This only needs to be done once unless you are walking in different terrain such as up/down hills, in snow or grass, or running (which causes your stride to change dramatically).

Most pedometers need to be worn perfectly level on your belt to ensure that they catch each up and down movement to count as a "step".

More advanced omron pedometers can actually be put into your pocket so you don't have to worry about how to wear them or other people seeing them. Some expensive models actually use GPS to track your distance covered and these can be kept anywhere on your body.

In Summary:

Cheap pedometers are obviously not miracle devices, but if a small step counter can make you more informed about your level of activity and keep you motivated about walking more than 5000 steps a day, they may very well help you to live longer!

What it Takes to Begin a Business

Image : http://www.flickr.com

To start a business, you need to put all your heart and mind into it. The very first thing you'll need is to have an actual idea to put into reality. You can make your dreams come true, but only if you do something more than thinking about it. So, before you actually start something, you may want to first put your ideas on paper.

Why should you have a plan? For one thing, your plan is your road map to where you want to end up. Without a plan, you'll just wander around in a fog like a ship without a rudder or compass to guide it. Planning requires organization, so try to formulate your ideas into a coherent pattern.

Write an outline, and make sure to properly structure it. Not only will this help you to focus on what you want to achieve, it will also help you to evaluate your line of operation and determine whether you are on track or have lost your way somewhere along the line. Formulating a business plan requires a lot of attention to detail. The location of the business, dealing with competitors and what marketing strategies to employ are just a few of the issues to be confronted. New businesses have to deal with hiring and firing situations.

All of these issues are made easier if you have an outline to which to refer. You can formulate a plan at different stages of your enterprise. As mentioned earlier, you can formulate your plan at the start of the enterprise, and also at the termination of same, when you feel that it is now time to wind up the venture.

Obviously the decisions you will make when you want to terminate your venture, such as whether to sell off the stock or whether to close down the premises, are very different ones from when you started it, but either way, decisions have to be made.

Omron Digital Pedometer Model HJ 112 Review

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The HJ 112 pedometer from omron is one of the best pedometers available today. It strikes an impressive balance between features, price, and usability, resulting in a pedometer that's suitable for everyone, enthusiasts and occasional users alike.

Thanks to its innovative dual sensor technology, this pedometer can be carried in your pocket, bag or purse, and it still keeps track of your steps, calorie consumption, distance, and aerobic activity with amazing accuracy.

It has a very clear and easy to read display, with decent sized buttons that you can operate comfortably on the move. If you'd rather fix it to your belt it comes with a detachable belt holder, along with a rugged and strong security strap.

Using a replaceable lithium battery, the HJ 112 digital pedometer will last up to 6 months, assuming an average 10,000 steps per day. That's a lot of walking!

I must admit I found this to be a brilliant pedometer. I did look at other models, but when I compared the price, features and ease of use, I personally thought this one came out the winner. The HJ 112 and the HJ 720ITC are both new type pedometers that you can keep in your pocket, and to be honest the only reason I picked the HJ 112 was because I didn't have any need for the software that comes with the 720 ITC.

If you're wondering whether this pedometer can be used for jogging, it can. That's exactly what I use it for. I admit I didn't buy it with the intention of going jogging, but after a few weeks of consistent walking it's amazing how much fitter you get.

I have a little circuit that I take, but after a month or two I started jogging for small distances and then walking again, but now I jog for almost the whole time. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have done that without the HJ 112.

If you're looking for a pedometer that will last you a good few months, and you don't need any of the bells and whistles such as management software, then the omron digital pedometer model HJ 112 is exactly the right one for you and I recommend it highly.

If you're not the person doing the walking and you're considering buying a pedometer for someone else, the HJ 112 makes an ideal choice. It's got everything you need to keep track of your activity but is really easy to use.

Also, in addition to it being a bit of a cool gadget gift for someone, it's also a very practical and useful gift that will actually help them get or stay healthy. I don't know if there is a better way of showing someone that you really care about them.

Pedometer Watches - What Should You Look For?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you're keen on keeping track of your fitness activity, especially your distance, time and number of steps, then sooner or later you'll end up thinking about a pedometer watch. Before you decide which one you're going to buy, here are a few things you should look for.

1. First of all, is it accurate enough for your needs? If you just need a rough guide, then your choice will be that much wider, but if you need an accurate reading, there are only a few pedometer watches you should shortlist.

2. What kind of sensor does it use? This is sort of related to the previous point because the newer technology is much more accurate. There are still pedometers about that use old technology - make sure you don't unwittingly get one of them. Look for a mention of accelerometer and you will be fine.

3. Can it tell the difference between running and walking? It might sound an obvious question, but make sure the pedometer watch you go for can actually distinguish between different types of exercise. The better models usually employ some sort of delay mechanism which detects a specific type of activity for a short period of time before it counts it.

4. Is the pedometer watch customizable? It's important that you can customize your pedometer watch so that it tracks your specific body type and movement style. If it also allows you to put in your weight, then that's even better. This information is used to calculate accurate distances and calorie burning.

5. Can it store enough information? It's unlikely you're going to use it for one day and then not need the information it collects again. If you're a keen walker or runner you'll almost certainly be keeping track of your performance over the course of several days, weeks or months. Check your pedometer watch can store at least the amount of information you need to work out how much you are improving.

Although that's not all you need to consider when looking at pedometer watches, it covers the main topics. Of course you'll also want to shop around and make sure you're getting the best price, and don't forget to check for any special offers and deals.

Personally, I've all but stopped using a normal pedometer. It's not that there's anything really wrong with them, but I've found the convenience of a pedometer watch, especially if it comes with a normal time function, has got me well and truly hooked. I think you'll be hooked too.

Pedometer Walking Fitness Information

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The first pedometer was probably invented by Thomas Jefferson, and it was a pendulum based mechanical device that counted steps. Modern pedometers are electronic or digital in format. To find the best pedometers for you, start with learning how they work, and how they have become more accurate in counting steps. pedometer popularity has exploded as people search for a way to walk the 10000 steps daily that experts often recommend for fitness. You can often see everyday people with a pedometer on a belt clip, at work, at the gym or out walking. These devices need to be worn all day long for the best accuracy.

If you have walked 5 miles, you have walked ten thousand steps, the number that fitness and exercise experts use as a stand in for achieving the minimum required exercise each day. The classic Roman Mile consists of a thousand paces, and each pace is 2 steps. If you eat a sensible low-calorie diet with your doctor's approval, you may experience weight loss from a pedometer based walking program.

If you need encouragement to keep up your diet and exercise program, consider getting a pedometer. You may find yourself walking more, more active, reducing your bodyweight and even participating more in other forms of exercise. Weight loss and more activity may even lower your blood pressure at the same time your clothes fit better.

The first pedometers often recorded steps that the user had not taken. Good pedometers nowadays use better technology that reduces false information recording. Today pedometers have built in technology that records motion over several axes. Advanced software programs interpret the mechanical impressions, and the result is a much more accurate device overall. We look forward to the release of next generation devices with even better sensors and software.

To record the distance you walk, your new pedometer will require some initial setup. Because your leg length is individual, you must teach your new device how to count the length of your stride to accurately determine the miles you have walked.

Watch out for pedometer technology that has been integrated into other devices. The best pedometers available online seem to outperform the technology built into phones and music players. Look out for third generation pedometers available soon that integrate with web-based software, and even allow you to track the food you eat each day.
